Level 1
=
Water Exploration Roles for helping child learn &practice
skills for age. Importance of cues and when to use them. Scooping,
Blowing bubbles, bobbing. Combined skills in prone position, Water
entry |

Level
2
=
Must be 5 years old by start of lessons Independent from
parents. Skills taught include floating supported on front and back;
bubble blowing; supported kick on front and back; basic water safety
rules |

Level 3
= Skills to be taught include; retrieve objects (chest
deep); deep water orientation; unsupported prone float; unsupported
back float; flutter kick on front and back; back crawl arm action;
water safety rules |

Level 4 =
Skills to be taught include; retrieve object with eyes open;
bobbing in the water; kneeling/compact dive from side; prone glide;
back glide; front crawl intro; back crawl intro; treading; reversing
direction on front and on back; safe diving rules; water safety
rules |

Level 5
= Skills to be taught include; deep water bobbing;
buoyancy/floating positions; rotary breathing; diving from side;
elementary backstroke intro; sculling on back; front and back crawl;
breast stroke kick; scissor kick; open turn; 2 minute treading; water
safety skills; intro to CPR |

Level 6
=
Stroke Refinement Demonstrate all five strokes learned, Tread
water-2 minutes using two different kicks, Swim under water 3- body
lengths, Demonstrate a long shallow dive. Stride jump entry.

Adult Swim
Lessons = Skills taught
include: water orientation, basic strokes & skills, water safety concepts,
alternate breathing, stride jump entry, long shallow dive, breaststroke,
sidestroke, underwater (3 body lengths), dolphin kick, front/back crawl (50
yards), recognizing spinal injuries, hip & shoulder support, feet first
surface dive. This class builds on what each individual participant is
currently able to do.

Saturday
Drop-In Swim Lessons =
Participants will be evaluated at the beginning of class.
The instructor will build on the participants current abilities. Skills will
vary among each student. |

- PREREQUISITES & INFORMATION
SHEET

- 1. Each participant that
successfully completes the Lifeguard course will become certified in
Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid.
-
- 2. There will be a pre-test. To
continue in the class, the participant must be at least 15 years of age, and be
able to accomplish the following:
- a. Swim 500 hundred yards
continuously, using each of the following strokes for at least 100 yards each:
crawl stroke, breast stroke, and sidestroke. Participants choose their stroke(s)
for the remaining 200 yards. There is no time requirement for this skill.

- b. Submerge to a minimum depth
of 7 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return with it to the surface. There
is no time requirement for this skill.
-
- c. Tread water for 2 minutes
using legs only. Participants cross their arms across their chest and place
their hands under their armpits.
-
- 3. Call 573-596-7450 for books.
If the class is familiar with the material, the last day of class should be over
a lot earlier.
