With over 60,000 acres available for hunting, including archery, firearms and muzzleloaders the Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) is the hub for outdoor recreation at Fort Leonard Wood. Fishing is available on post in the Big Piney River plus numerous ponds and lakes available on Fort Leonard Wood. The Trout Management areas are open year round and all hunting and fishing state and local licenses and permits available at the OAC.

The OAC has a large retail operation that sells guns, ammunition, fishing and hunting equipment, and camping and outdoor equipment. The OAC hosts a fully stocked archery department and sells bows and custom made arrows. The center also has a 3D archery course, two trap and two skeet ranges that are open daily, as well as two paintball courses, a wooded course within Mark Twain National Forest, with boundaries and a 100 yard by 100 yard speedball course. The Center also sells paintball equipment. OAC offers float trips that are daily during the spring, summer and part of autumn (weather permitting) down the Big Piney. As well as fishing classes, hunter education, and Concealed Carry Weapons classes. Besides the programs offered through the Outdoor Adventure Center, Fort Leonard Wood has multiple walking trails, caves, hiking areas and two parks (Colyer and Happy Hollow) with play areas.

Authorized individuals wishing to utilize any available hunting areas for ANY desired purpose must physically check in and register at Range Control prior to using any hunting area.


  • Recreational users must sign in with Range Control at Bldg 5282

  • Questions concerning hunting and fishing access call Range Control at  573.596.2525

  • Questions concerning the hunting and fishing regulation call the Fort Leonard Wood Game Warden at 573.596.0596

  • Questions concerning fish and wildlife management call the Natural Resources Branch at 573.596.2814

  • If you have difficulties accessing areas open for hunting call the automated line at 573.596.4224

You can purchase Missouri State and Fort Leonard Wood Hunting and Fishing permits. All personnel are reminded that a permit is required for recreational activities occurring outside of the main business, operational and housing areas on Fort Leonard Wood. Permits are available at Outdoor Adventure Center. Everyone Ages 16-64 are required to have Missouri State fishing permits. A Missouri Trout permit is $7, $3.50 for 15 & under is required to trout fishing at Stone Mill Recreation Area.

 

Fishing Permits

Missouri State Fishing Permits:

  • Resident Fishing for the year $12, expires last day in February.
  • Non-Resident Fishing $7.00 per day or $42.00 per year

Persons, age 7 and older, are required to obtain the Fort Leonard Wood Sportsman's Permit. Everyone must watch a safety video shown 7 days per week 10am to 5:30pm.  See below for prices. Everyone must watch the video yearly.  Sportsmen Permits all expire February 28th.

Anyone who chooses to hunt the following is required to purchase a $5 stamp for each season.  

Spring Firearms Turkey/Fall Firearms Turkey

Archery Turkey/Deer Fall Firearms Deer Missouri State Hunting permits and regulations can be obtained at the Outdoor Adventure Center 7 days per week or from the MDC web page http://mdc.mo.gov/  Anyone born on or after January 1, 1967 is required to have a hunter education class prior to purchasing a firearms hunting permit. A hunter education certificate is honored from any state but certificate must be presented at time of purchase.

 Hunt Master Lift Outdoor Adventure Center offers two handicap accessible portable stands, $20 for daily hunt. Call for reservations.

Features

Trap and Skeet Range

The Outdoor Adventure Center has 2 Skeet fields and 2 Trap fields. 
  • $6.00 per round (includes 25 birds)
  • $8.00 per box House shells
  • 12 & 20 gage Browning, Remington, Beretta available for use.
  • NO GUN FEE for Active Duty and their families. All others-$5 Gun Fee.
  • Basic instructions are available.

 

 Archery Range

  • Practice range open everyday
  • Field Points only
  • 3-D shoots held monthly April thru September, call OAC for schedules
  • $5 a Day
  • $20 a Month
  • $40 a Quarter

 

 

Paintball

The Outdoor Adventure Center has 2 paintball fields available for play. There are 55 paintball guns available for rent. Anyone is welcome! Weekends are first come first serve basis. Reservations are recommended for groups of 8 or more. Patrons with their own equipment must check in at the OAC and pay a $10 field fee-includes all day air refills. Velocity can not exceed 300 feet per minute. Patrons are not allowed to bring their own paintballs, the OAC paintballs are the only ones permited on the field.

Float & Fishing Trips
Customize float trips available for large groups. 
We can help you organize a canoe float trip for your group or organization. Call for details.
Walk ins are welcome, floats are conducted 7 days a week. All routes are subject to change.

Float trips start April 1 and end October 1.

 

2 hour floats go from Spillway to Breeden Springs ● $30 per canoe ● Includes life vest and paddles● 2 people per canoe, $5 extra for each additional person.● Floats start at 10am and last float leaves the OAC at 2pm 4 hour floats go from Quarry Input to Breeden Springs ● $40 per canoe ● Includes life vest and paddles● 2 people per canoe, $5 extra for each additional person. ● Floats start at 10am and last float leaves the OAC at 1pm

 

Horse Stables Horse stables for privately owned horses are available through Outdoor Adventure Center.

  • Cost is $125 per month, per stall.
  • $150 Deposit per stall. Every horse entering the OAC Stables must complete a 10-day quarantine period. 
  • An inside exercise barn
  • Outside riding arena 
  • Turnouts are provided by MWR. Patrons whom wish to build their own turnouts can get permission from the OAC Stable Manager. This is a self-care facility.

** Outdoor Adventure Center now can order any firearms, archery, and any other sporting goods. We offer the following dealers:   Beretta, Browning, Remington, CZ, Winchester, Smith and Wesson, Mossberg, Marlin, as well as many other brands.
We also maintain a federal firearms license so we can provide in state gun shipping and receiving. A small fee is charged and a NICS background check is mandatory on all gun sales. Contact us for any further sports purchases.

 

Rental Equipment & Park Reservations:

The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) rents a variety of camping, boating and sports equipment. The Outdoor Adventure Center also sponsors various outdoor activities, coordinates park reservations, OAC schedules float trips and operates two paint ball fields.

Persons desiring to camp at the Big Piney Campgrounds must register in person at the OAC prior to entering or setting up in the campgrounds.
