Welcome to Fort Leonard Wood's School Age Services Information Site!

At School Age Services, we promote education, as well as fun and creative experiences for our youth.  We encourage the use of facility resources and welcome input from children and parents about ways to improve our activities and field trips.  We strive to create a fun environment so the children will enjoy being here and their parents will feel comfortable with the care they are receiving.  School Age Services received re-accreditation on 13 June 2005 from the National AfterSchool Association (NAA).

School Age Services consists of four main buildings, each housing different age groups of children.  Building 561 is for grades 1 – 2, Building 562 is for grades 2 – 3, Building 563 is for grades 3 – 5, and Building 564 is for Kindergarten.

Service areas in each building include a dining area, homework area, lounge/rest area, boy’s and girl’s restroom, individual lockers to store belongings, and mailboxes for each child.  There are age appropriate activities centered within different areas in the room, i.e., arts & crafts, dramatic play, video games, blocks, board games, and large table games.

SAS utilizes the Character Counts (CC) model in our guidance measures.  CC consists of six pillars which focus on promoting good character.  The six CC pillars are:  Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

SAS Computer Labs

SAS has two separate computer labs, each consisting of seven computers.  Different activities are available every day; each designed to help children learn how to use a computer safely and efficiently.

SAS Power Hour

Children are encouraged to do their homework when they come to SAS after school and we have caregivers available to offer assistance.  When children do their homework at SAS they are given points which may be used in the SAS Power Store.  In the Power Store various trinkets, treats, and goodies are available for the children to buy with the points they've earned.

School Age Services facilitates a variety of 4-H criteria - based clubs such as
Clover Kids, Book Look, Eats 'n Treats Cooking, and Start Smart.

Clover Kids – A club primarily for Kindergarten through first grade children.  This club is centered on exploring, learning, and doing projects and activities that revolve around the six CC pillars.

Book Look - A club for Kindergarten where children are read a book and then involved in an activity related to the story.  Stories often contain a lesson about morals.  In this club, children not only learn to be a better person, but fine motor skills are enhanced as well as the child's reading ability!

Eats 'n Treats - This cooking club is designed to help children learn and understand basic kitchen safety, etiquette, and the preparation of simple, but healthy snacks and meals that are delicious and nutritious!

Start Smart - A club for 5th graders with activities focusing on the skills needed for transitioning to middle school.  This club also addresses safety issues when home alone.
